FEATHERSTON

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. There were present Messrs F. E. A. Dohnt (chairman), E. B. Baker, W. Jeffrey, S. Murphy, J. Holland, J. Higgison, J. W. Henderson and C. C. Kenward (secretary). A credit balance of £55 17s 6d was reported. Accounts totalling £8 8s 6d were passed for payment. A letter was received from Wellington Education Board advising the committee that a new lawn mowrer had been forwarded at a cost of £3 15s and payment for the same would be deducted from the committee’s grant for incidental expenses. The Education Board advised that three new typewriters were to be supplied to the Featherston District High School. The headmaster reported that the machines had already arrived. In reply to the committee’s representations in respect to repairs necessary to the school residence, the secretary of the board wrote stating that the buildings inspector, Mr Powell, would make an examination at an early date. In the meantime the board (had given Mr O’Neale instructions to repair the roof. The headmaster, Mr Pendergrast, reported that the old typewriters were in need of repair. It was decided to have the machines sent to Wellington for attention.

The question of milk in schools was discussed and dissatisfaction was expressed at the way the Masterton people had allowed this vital matter to lapse. The secretary intimated that he had written to the secretary of the Milk Committee for an explanation for the delay, but so far had received no reply. The general opinion of the ■ committee was that the executive of the Milk Committee were neglecting the matter, and the secretary was •instructed to write to the chairman of the committee, Mi' W- R- Nicol, to ascertain what was being done. Messrs Holland and Baker were appointed delegates to the Dental Committee. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT. There was a fair attendance at the Fire Brigade weekly euchre tournament on Tuesday night. The winners were: Ladies, Mrs S. Crawford 1, R. Fluty 2; men, Mrs Cross 1, R. Fuge 2. GOLF CLUB COMPETITION. The ladies played a bogey competition at the Gum Grove links yesterday. The results were: —A grade, Mrs Stockley 1, Miss D. Bloxam 2, Miss Williams and Miss M. Bloxam 3. B grade: Mrs Lovegrove 1, Mrs Staples 2, Mrs Jeffrey 3.
