In the Senate, the Opposition Leader, Mr Arthur Meighen, demanded that the Dominion exert its authority in the Provinces to meet a crisis threatening the disintegration of the Dominion. Provincial legislation, even if constitutional, could be disallowed in favour of the ’ public good. Repudiation was rampant in the prairies, centring in Edmonton (Alberta). As a result, industry was paralysed, because none were willing to invest money, particularly in Alberta, under a Social Credit Government. DOMINION LOAN. QUICKLY OVERSUBSCRIBED. (Recd This Day, noon.) OTTAWA, May 18. The Dominion’s six year 2 per cent 140 million dollar loan was oversubscribed in the first half-hour.
