BRILLIANT REVEL
ANNUAL MILITARY BALL LAST NIGHT AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. MUNICIPAL HALL CROWDED. There was a scene of brilliant revelry in the Masterton Municipal Hall last night when the Military Ball Committee held its annual gathering. There was almost a record attendance of dancers from all parts of the Wairarapa and adjacent districts and the strikingly attractive decorations, excellent music and the beautiful frocks and colourful uniforms combined 'to make the ball one of the most successful and enjoyable for a number of years.
The main hall, crowded with dancers, provided a scene of animated gaiety. The decorative scheme, which was the work of Sergeant J. K. Welch, was at once novel and artistic, while the supper room was also beautifully decorated by a committee in charge of Private A. G. Liiderman. The general arrangements of the ball were first-class and from every point of view the gathering fully upheld the high standard set in the past. Over a period of years, the Military Ball has had an established reputation as one of the most enjoyable social events of the season and this year the organising committee, if anything, excelled themselves in providing for the enjoyment of patrons. The executive committee, which did excellent work in organising the ball, consisted of Lieut. I. A. Hart and Lance-Corp. A. H. Green, joint secretaries; C Company, Sergeant J. K. Welch, Corporals H. Donald and J. Robinson; D Company, Sergeant C. Newland, Corporal R. Johansen, Private E. Button; Mounted Rifles, S.Q.M.S. C. Osborne, Troopers J. Wyeth P. Cardno and Sergeant-Major C. E. Rogers. As usual the ladies’ committee worked untiringly to ensure the success of the ball and their arrangements for supper, which were of a high standard, left nothing to be desired. The committee, which was in charge of Mesdames C. E. Rogers and I. A. Hart, was as follows: Mesdames J. Ninnes, H. L. Esau, C. J. Williams, A. Newland, H. J. Cardno, J. H. Irving, J. Aikman and G. Beecroft. The outstanding success achieved was gratifying to the secretaries, Lieut. Hart and Lance-Corp. Green, who had all the detail arrangements' well in hand and spared no pains in their efforts to provide for the entertainment and enjoyment of all who attended.
Excellent music was provided by the Blue River Dance Hand, assisted by McKay’s Novelty Syncopators.
