LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
SPECIAL CHILDREN’S DAY. There was a very large attendance at the meeting of the Masterton League of Mothers, held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. The president (Mrs L. B. Maunsell) occupied the chair and in welcoming new members and visitors said how pleased she was to see so many children present. It is the intention of the league to make the May meeting (which is held during school holidays) annually a special one for the children. Miss Edna Coleman gave a very interesting talk on Gloria Rawlinson, telling her hearers of the remarkable powers of expression in both verse and prose that gifted young authoress had developed while still a child and after being stricken by a severe illness. Some of Miss Rawlinson’s poems were recited by the following: .Marie Heath, Monica Fagan, Marion Bennett and Betty Judd. Other items on the programme were: —Songs, Eileen Corskie, Joan Russell and Pat Gill; pianoforte duet, Brenda and Evan Jaine; dance solos, Noeline Graham, Pat Clarke and Majorie Olliver; pianoforte solo, Catherine Maunsell; recitation, Jocelyn Heath.
The accompaniments were played by Mesdames E. J. Coleman and A. L. Paterson.
All the young performers acquitted themselves well and were very heartily applauded. The tea hostesses were Mesdames T. T. Denbee, B. R. Mabson, T. A. Russell and N. E. Ball.
