The Post Office announces that the extension of Australian air-mail services to the Mandated Territory of New Guinea via Papua will commence from Sydney on May 30. The postal rate from New Zealand will be 4d per half-ounce for letters and 2d for postcards. In the reverse direction, the rate is to be the usual Australian air-mail charge of 3d per half-ounce, plus the ordinary postage of 2d per ounce. It is intended to provide a weekly service in each direction, the plane leaving Sydney on Tuesdays, reaching Port Moresby (Papua) and Salamaua (New Guinea) on Wednesday, arriving at Rabaul on Thursday. The return journey will commence on Friday, Sydney being reached on Sunday. Surface transit between these points takes ten to fifteen days from Brisbane to Salamaua and seven fo eleven days to Rabaul, the service being approximately once every three weeks.
