QUEEN CARNIVAL. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs W. Jeffery held a euchre tournament at her house on Monday evening in aid of the Queen Carnival. The winners were as follow: —Ladies: Mrs Lynsky, 1; Mrs Hoskins, 2. Consolation: Mrs Lowell. The prizes were donated by Mrs Jeffery. Men: Mrs McKenna, 1 (prize donated by Mrs Lambess); Mrs Charles, 2 (prize donated by Mrs Moriarity). Consolation: Mr F. Cole, 1 (prize donated by Mrs McFEATHERSTON GOLF CLUB. The following players will represent Featherston versus Carterton on Sat- « urday. Play will commence at 1.30 p.m.:— ■ At Carterton: Rowles, Crawford, Allen, Shepherd, O’Neale, Fountain, Bloxam, Lang. At Featherston: McCallum, Kibblewhite, Hardie, McCarty, Davis, Card, Pendegrast, Lawson. Emergencies: I. Donald, Carlyon, Greig. The following partners have been drawn for the fourball competition (President’s trophy)):—Carlyon and McCarty; Lawson and McCallum; Jeffery and Davis; R. Donald and Lovegrove; O’Neale and Crawford; Wehipeihana and Edwards; Shepherd and Allen; Bloxam and L. Benton; Rowles and Greig; I. Donald and Fountain. BOXING CLUB.
The meeting of the Boxing Club was held on Monday night. Mr R. Watson was in the chair. It was deOided to obtain shorts and singlets in the club colours. In the gymnasium a ring is to' be built so that the pupils will have the benefit of ringcraft. The club will endeavour to stage a tournament in about a month’s time. THE LATE MR T. TAYLOR.
The funeral of the late Mr Terry Taylor took place yesterday morning after Requiem Mass at St. Terisa’s Church. The service and funeral were largely attended; The many floral emblems testified to the popularity of the deceased. The Rev. Father Carmine officiated at the church and the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs N. C. C. Shepherd, W. Boston, Cecil r Chambers and a relative of the deceased. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs E. Fairbrother, accompanied by their son, Nelson, have left for Auckland, where they intend to spend a short holiday. LITERARY INSTITUTE. At a meeting of the committee of the Literary Institute Mr. R. W. Matthews presided over a good attendance. It was reported that 88 books had been added to the Library since the last meeting. Donations of books and periodicals have been received from Mrs R. W. Matthews, Miss Viles and Mr M. B. Tait. Six new subscribers have joined. It was resolved to place on record the Institute’s appreciation of the services rendered by the late Mr Wm. Benton. The question of a rest room was discussed and it was decided to get information from Carterton, Greytown and Martinborough.
