CRIPPLED CHILDREN

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA i. . SOCIETY.— MORE MEMBERS WANTED. A plea for increased interest and an enlarged membership' was made by the president, Mr S. L. P. Free, at the annual meeting last night of the Wairarapa branch of the Crippled Children’s Society. There was an attendance of fifteen members. The annual report, previously published, was adopted. Mr E. M. Hodder, chairman of last year’s executive committee, said there was a need for greater interest on the part of members not directly concerned with the actual detail workings of the society. It was neither possible nor desirable to broadcast details of the cases dealt with, but he saw no reason why members should not have access at any time to the files, which contained all the history and detail of the various cases being investigated or treated. He paid a tribute to the valuable assistance and co-operation received from members of the medical profession in the district and also praised the work of the secretaries, Messrs Dunderdale and Gray. Mr Free said any member had every right to come to the office and ask questions and, if necessary, peruse the files. The work of the medical men had been splendid, particularly the panel of three, who, since the inception of the society, had voluntarily examined and reported on all cases submitted. The chief source of revenue last year had been grants from the Lord Nuffield Fund and Vocational Training. These would most likely be restricted this year 'and consequently there was a definite need for increasing the membership. The following . officers were- elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr S. L. P. Free; vice-presidents, Mr E. M. Hodder, the Mayors of the various towns and the chairmen of county councils from Pahiatua to Martinborough, the chairman of the Wairarapa Hospital Board and the chairman of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board; General Committee, Messrs R. C. Drummond, Norman Lee, W. A. Michael, F. L. Price, L. Robinson, E. R. Rogers, R. Smith, F. E. Wells, O. H. E. Yates, Mesdames J. Caselberg, Arch Clarke, J. W. Perry, H. E. Pither, T. W. Wardell, Miss Hodges, Nurses Kerins and Cocker; executive committee, Messrs E. M. Hodder (chairman), S. L. P. Free, R. C .Drummond. L. Robinson, Mrs H. E. Pither and Miss Hodges; secretaries and treasurers, Messrs Dunderdale and Gray; auditor. Mr D. B. Curry; solicitors, Messrs Hart, Daniell and Hart; medical referee committee, Drs. J. A.
