HOSPITAL AFFAIRS

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD. RETURN OF PATIENTS. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, presided at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, held this morning. Others present were: — Messrs F. E. Breton, I. McLeod, F. Court, W. Britland, D. McGregor, W. I. Armstrong, H. Thomas, W. B. Martin, C. T. Richardson, A. Forsberg, Arch. Clark, P. R. Welch, J. F. Thompson, Mesdames J. Robertson, S. Fletcher and Miss E. Card. In his report on the financial position for the period April 1 to April 30, the Managing-Secretary, Mr Norman Lee, stated that maintenance expenditure exceeded receipts by £3OOB 2s 6d. In the capital account there was a credit balance of £371 15s Id and in the loan account a balance of £7084 16s 7d. The return of patients at the institutions controlled by the board for the month of April was as follows, the figures for the corresponding. month last year being shown in. parentheses: Masterton Hospital: In hospital on March 31, 106 (116); admitted during month, 114 (124); total under treatment, 220 (240); discharged, 91 (111); in hospital on April 30, 129 (129); daily average, 117.86 (122.06). Greytown Hospital: In hospital on March 31, 26 (17); admitted during month, 29 (20); total under treatment, 55 (37); discharged, 29 (24); in hospital on April 30, 26 (13); daily average 22.6. There were 55 inmates in the Buchanan Home at the end of April, the same number as at April 30, 1937. .. Pahiatua Hospital: Im hospital at March 31, 15 (17); admitted during month, 22 (24); total under treatment, 37 (41); discharged, 23 (18); in hospital on April 30, 14 (23); daily average, 15 (20). The Matron of the Greytown Hospital reported that the Women’s National Welfare League paid a visit to Buchanan Home On April 21 and entertained the inmates at afternoon tea and a concert.
