HAWKE’S BAY RELIEF

APPEAL IN WAIRARAPA GOOD RESPONSE EVIDENT. Enthusiastic meetings were held in Featherston and Greytown yesterday in furtherance of the Wairarapa effort, by means of a ball to be held in Masterton on May 24, to raise funds to assist the Hawke’s Bay flood sufferers. The Featherston meeting was under the chairmanship of Miss Card (Mayoress) and the secretarial duties were undertaken by Miss Jean Donald. A committee of all present was formed to promote ways and means of disposing of tickets. The committee then gave a lead and £lO worth of tickets were purchased by those present. A similar meeting was held in the Borough Council Chambers, Greytown. last night. Mrs A. W. Horton (Mayoress) presided and Mrs A. N. Johnson was appointed secretary. The enthusiasm shown was very encouraging. The Masterton Committee is reminded of the meeting to be held in the Lecture Hall of the Municipal Hall tonight at 7 o’clock. FUND OPENED. DONATIONS ACKNOWLEDGED. Donations to the Hawke's Bay flood relief fund are acknowledged by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, as follow:— £ s d Englishman 20 0 0 D.O.A 2 0 0 “74, Too Old To Help or Dance” 10 0 Donations, which may be left with Mr Jordan or at the “Times-Age” Office, will be acknowledged in the Press.
