PERSONAL ITEMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Miss Phyllis Priest, who recently severed her connection with the firm of Messrs Watson and Co., was the recipient of a handsome easy chair, from the staff in honour of her marriage. Mr J. A. B. Lawrence, manager, made the presentation and referred in appreciative terms of Miss Priest’s services over a number of years. The Rev. R. J. Liddell, of Glen Eden, Auckland, and Mr and Mrs D. Beale, of Hokianga, North Auckland, have returned home after visiting Carterton, to be present at the Liddell — Priest wedding. TABLE TENNIS TOURNEY. A tournament arranged by the Wairarapa Table Tennis Association was held Very successfully in the Parkvale Hall on Saturday evening, there being competitors present from Wellington, Hutt, Petone and all the centres in the Wairarapa as far north as Mauriceville. There were almost 100 entries and the events decided included a ladies’ handicap singles, won by Miss Pat Renall, of Kokotau, who defeated Miss P. Harvey, of Petone, in the final; men’s handicap singles in which Mr L. Wilson of Wellington was successful, Mr Boniface being runner-up. The combined doubles, also attracted considerable interest and after keen competition, the event was won by Miss P. Harvey (Petone) and Mr Boniface, of Wellington, who defeated Miss F. Bliss (Parkvale) and Mr Havyce (Wellington), in a spirited contest. A committee of the Parkvale Club, Mesdames W. Adlam, B. W. Renall, Les. Rayner, Randall Williams, J. Taplin and C. W. Jensen Junr., provided an excellent supper, and they were complimented on the success of their efforts.
Mr E. T. Bliss (Parkvale) president of the Wairarapa Table Tennis Association, presented the prizes to the successful competitors, and complimented them on their success. Mr Bliss also expressed the appreciation of the association to the many competitors who had travelled such long distances to make the tournament the undoubted success it was. GOLF RESULTS. The following were the best cards returned for the four-ball Bogey competition played on the Taratahi links on Saturday by members of the Carterton Golf Club:—F. B. Knutson and H. J. Dudson, J. Steel and L. H. Smart, B. Beaven and W. Candy, 4 up; R. W. Roydhouse and H. E. Jackson, 3 up; R. Lawrence and A. Krahagen, R. Fisher and J. V. Gustofson, R. T. Forbes and C. K. Goodin, 1 up; C. Clarke and Father Heavey, 1 down. MINIATURE RIFLES. Carterton will fire their first interclub miniature rifle match against Grey town on Wednesday night, and will be represented as under: — Seniors.—R. Taucher, N. F. Teal, J. T. Bridge, R. Hawker, Miss Fisher, H. Torrey, W. Press, D. Gayfer, F. Yule, J. Finn, C. DeLacey, G. Goodin. Juniors.—Misses McPhee (2), Geo. Sewell, S. McGarvie, Les. Tunnicliffe, E. Miller.
