UNION OF HEARTS
NEW ZEALAND SOLDIERS IN SYDNEY LEAD TO BOTH COUNTRIES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The tremendously real and affectionate enthusiasm with which the New Zealanders were greeted was an unforgettable thing,” said Brigadier-Gen-eral H. W. Lloyd, a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council who arrived by the Aorangi today. “It was not merely the cheering of the people in the streets,” he added. “The whole populace took your men to their hearts. That enthuhiasm went to show how Anzac Day is losing its sectional appeal over there altogether. It has become rather like a standard which the two countries will bear as they march together into the future. It made on realise last month, how closely we are bound up with each other. Brigadier-General Lloyd said the deportment of the New Zealanders on and off parade, could only be described as magnificent.
BONDS STRENGTHENED. SIR. A. RUSSELL'S COMMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Sir Andrew Russell, leader of the New Zealand Anzac contingent, who arrived from Sydney today, spoke of the great visit to Sydney and its strengthening of the bonds between the two countries. Numerous applications had been received by the returned soldiers’ organisation in Australia for the contingent to visit New Zealand in 1940.
