MUNICIPAL BAND ANNUAL MEETING
ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF SPLENDID SUPPORT.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The annual meeting of the Masterton Municipal Band was held on May 10 and was attended by a full muster of bandsmen and also by a number of representative citizens. The deputyMayor (Councillor W. White) presided. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, he commended the management committee on its careful handling of the band’s affairs and complimented the band upon the excellent of its work, both in Masterton and in Featherston on Anzac Day.
The balance-sheet showed assets over liabilities of £7lO 13s Id and satisfactory bank balances.
After the business had been dealt with the band’s visitors were entertained to an interesting programme of vocal and instrumental items contributed by various bandsmen. Mr C. H. Mills made an excellent accompanist.
In his annual report the secretary (Mr B. Rickards) said the past year had been a busy one for the band. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the players, the band continued to prosper. During the year 88 practices had been held, the committee had met on 19 occasions, and the band had given 28 public performances. “On October 3,” the report continued, “Mr R. J. Young retired from the conductorship owing to ill-health, and was appointed a life member of the band in recognition of his valuable services. Applications were advertised for throughout New Zealand, and Mr G. W. Hutchinson was selected by the band from a large number of applicants, and is doing excellent work. Six members of the Junior Band have recently been promoted by Mr Hutchinson, and they have proved a valuable acquisition to the senior band.
“The thanks of the band are due to Messrs W. G. Lamb (treasurer) and A. D. Low (auditor) for valuable, gratuitous services rendered year after year. The band gratefully acknowledges the splendid support received from the public, the Borough Council, and also the local press. The ‘Wairarapa Daily Times’ and the 'Wairarapa Age’ have done a great deal for the band, and we wish to take this opportunity of warmly congratulating them on the excellent journal which has been produced as the result of the amalgamation.” Offiicers for the ensuing term were elected as under: —Patron, Mr T.
