MASTERTON SALE SHEEP IN GOOD DEMAND The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., report having held their weekly sale yesterday when they had a yarding consisting of 1450 sheep, which were submitted to a large attendance comprising several buyers from the Manawatu. Fat sheep were in good demand at last week’s prices except that good fat ewes improved by about 2s a per head. Breeding ewes met a strong market and increased considerably on late rates, most of the yarding going out of the district. Wether lambs were about the same as , jjie last few weeks. We had a total clearance at auction at the following rates: — Fat sheep: Fat wethers 25s to 26s 4d; good heavy ewes 23s 6d to 255; fat ewes 20s 3d to 21s Id; light ewes, 18s to 19s Id; fat B.F. two-tooths, 245. Store sheep: M.A. young ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 33s Id; S.M. ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 21s Id to 24s 6d; aged ewes do., 17s to 18s 6d; good woolly wether lambs 17s to 18s 6d; good woolly wether lambs 17s; med. do. 14s 7d to 15s 2d; small do. 12s 6d to 14s; B.F. lambs 14s, 14s 9d to 15s 9d; ewe lambs, 20s; empty., ewes 12s ’6d; low conditioned'do. 7s to 8s 6d. Cattle: P.A. cows £4 17s 6d; 18 mos. P.A. steers, £5 17s; jersey steers, £3 10s'; 18 mos. heifers, £3 Is" weaner jersey heifers, £2 to £2 7s; store cows, £2 5s to £3. FARMERS’ DISTRIBUTING CO. The N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op. Distrib. Cd. Ltd., .offered good yardings of sheep and cattle at Master-ton sale. Prime, fat ewes were 2s to 2s 6d perhead dearer than last week. Good conditioned breeding ew.es were in
keen demand and prices hardened 3s to 5s per head, while lambs were very firm at late rates. The cattle market also showed considerable improvement. Quotations:—Prime fat ewes 22s 6d to 24s 6d; lighter. 17s 6d; fattening ewes, 9s to 15s lOd; shorn w.f.w. lambs, 15s 9d; woolly w.f.w. lambs, 14s 6cl to 17s 6d; small 2-th wethers, 20s; b.f. lambs, 14s 6d to 17s 6d; fat heifers, ex-dairy. £4 14s to £6; fat cows ex-dairy, £4 7s 6d to £4 17s Gel; store pigs, 12s.

Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—A good yarding of sheep came forward at our weekly sale yesterday, and we have to report a very buoyant sale at increased prices. Fats were in strong demand and sold at the best values so far obtained this year. Ewes running with ram made prices well above expectations, and there was a substantial rise in the hoggett market. We made a total clearance as under: —
Sheep: 196 ewes r.w.S.D. ram, 24s 6d; 27 ewes r.w.S.D. ram, 22s 3d; 67 f and f lambs, 15s 4d; 145 w.w. hoggets, 17s; 86 w.w. hoggets, 17s 6d; 60 fat ewes, 18s 7d; 100 f and f b.f. 2-th 23s 7d to 23s 9d; 17 fat ewes (good), 23s 7d. Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., report on their weekly Masterton sale held yesterday as follows: .A good yarding of all classes of sheep came forward and met a spirited sale from a large attendance, there being a number of
buyers present from Manawatu. Fat sheep showed an increase in values and all store sheep showed an improvement on last week’s sale. We report a total clearance as follows: — B.f. hoggets, 15s; medium ewe hoggets, 17s 6d; w.f. woolly hoggets, 16s to 17s; empty ewes, 13s 7d. PAHIATUA SALE. ■ Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report that at the Pahiatua sale on May 10. a good yarding of sheep was offered to a large attendance of local, Dannevirke and Manawatu buyers. Competition was keen and a total clearance was effected at prices in advance of late rates. Quotations: —Good w.f. wether lambs, woolly, 16s lOd medium, 14s, 15s 2d; small and cully, 9s; good medium b.f. lambs, 15s 2d, 16s 2d; low conditioned f.m. ewes, r.w. S.D. ram, 12s. ADDINGTON SALE. FAT SHEEP FIRMER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 11. Entries of fat sheep were larger than for some time at today’s Addington market, but store sheep were forward in small numbers. Store ewes consisted of a few pens of old sorts, which met with little interest, and store lambs were also not wanted, the class being poor. Store wethers were in keen demand, selling at up to 22s 7d.
Fat sheep: About 4500 were penned, with a slightly firmer market than last week. Prime wethers made 30s to 335, top to 37s lOd; good to medium, 29s to 265; good ewes, 22s to 255; tops, to 295; lightweight, 18s to 14s. Fat cattle: Five hundred and fiftyfive were penned, including a lot of good quality. There was a sticky sale, values being down by 10s a head. Good steers brought £l3 to £l5; tops, to £l6 15s; medium, £ll 10s to £l3; light, down to £9; best heifers, £8 to £10; tops, to £ll 10s; medium, £6 10s to £8 10s. Good beef ranged from 33s to 35s a 1001 b.
Fat pigs: Porkers were easier by 2s to 3s a head, and baconers were correspondingly dearer. Porkers realised 29s 6d to 58s 6d, an average price of 6d t0.63d a lb; baconers, 59s 6d to £5 2s 6d, an average a lb of 6d to 6jd. Store pigs had a better sale, particularly for weaners, which made from 5s 6d to 10s 6d; best stores, to 29s 6d.
JOHNSONVILLE PRICES. GOOD COMPETITION FOR CATTLE A large yarding of all classes of cattle was offered at Johnsonville. Only a few pens of heavy bullocks came forward, the balance of the yarding being chiefly medium weight and unfinished cattle. Extra prime heavy bullocks met with good competition, with prices firm on last week’s rate, while light weight and unfinished cattle were slightly easier. The yarding of cows and heifers was of good quality. All classes met with good competition, with prices for heavy weight cattle showing no alteration, while unfinished sorts were easier to the extent of 5s a head. The prices for cows ex-dairy were un-
changed on last week’s rate. A good sale resulted for runners and vealers, with prices firm on last week’s. Only a few pens of prime heavy wethers came forward. These met with keen competition, with prices firm -Id to Is a head of last week’s. Light weight and unfinished wethers met with no alteration. There was a small yarding of lambs, these meeting with keen competition, with prices firm to the extent of Is to Is 6d a head on last week’s. The yarding of ewes was of indifferent quality, being chiefly medium and light weight sheep. Heavy ewes met with a good sale, with prices firm on those ruling up country, while light and unfinished sorts were down slightly. Quotations are as follows: — Prime extra heavy bullocks, £l6 to £l4 ss; prime heavy bullocks, £l4 3s to £l3 12s; heavy bullocks, £l3 to £l2 ss; light and unfinished bullocks. £ll to £9 17s 6d; extra prime heavy cows and heifers, £lO 9s to £8 10s; prime heavy cows and heifers, £8 5s to £7 16s; cows and heifers, £7 10s to £7; cows, ex-dairy, heavy, £7 5s to £6 3s; medium, £5 10s to £3 ss; runners, £4 to £1 Is; vealers, £4 to £l.
