Mr Massey thanked the retiring secretary (Miss Pither), for the work she had done on behalf of the society.
It was arranged to hold the first committee meeting at Mrs Hessey’s house, 17 Worksop Road. It was also decided to continue holding the group evenings on Mondays and the concerts on Saturdays, as this was the most convenient. A recommendation was made to the committee that there be three concerts and five group evenings this season. After the meeting there was a short musical programme items being given by Mrs Hessey, Miss Y. Ruby and Mr H. B. Massfey. This was followed by supper. The annual report stated inter alia, as follows: —Another successful season was experienced. Four concerts were held during the year. The first was kindly arranged by Miss V. Corliss, the performers being Misses Elgar Christie (vocalist), Lois Ramsey (accompanist), and Mi' John McGill (pianist), all of Wellington. The second concert was given by Mrs Audrey Gibson Foster (pianist), Mrs Ernest Porter (violinist) and Miss Anne Gilpin (vocalist). Next the society collaborated with Solway College in a lecture recital on modern music by Dr Markham Lee. It was most interesting and his pianoforte illustrations were excellent. The last concert for the season, held at St. Matthew's College, was most enjoyable. The performers were Miss Ava Symons (violinist), Mrs Stephens (accompanist) and Mrs A. F. Downer (vocalist), all of Wellington. Thanks are due to Mr and Mrs T. Jordan, Mrs Cleghorn, of St. Matthew’s College and Mrs Thompson, of Solway College, for allowing us the use of their rooms for the concerts. The branch is indebted to Miss Fish, Mr and Mrs Don, Mrs L. T. Daniell, Mrs H. E. Pither, Mrs A. Daniell and Mrs T. Jordan for kindly pllowing their homes to be used for group evenings. The society lost three valued members —Miss Holmwood, Miss Fish and Mr McConnell —at the end of the season. We are .grateful to Mr Bell for auditing the accounts and also to the Press for their courtesy in publishing reports. Thanks are also due to group leaders and the different performers for the time and work they gave to help to make the season such a success. There has been a slight decrease in the number of members this year.
