ROADS AND BRIDGES

POLICY OF MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL. SPECIAL MEETING TO BE HELD. At a special meeting to be held on May 18 the Masterton County Council will define its future policy with regard to bridge construction and the permanent surfacing of roads. This decision was the outcome of the following notice of motion, tabled at yesterday’s meeting by Councillor J. W. Colquhoun:—“That the resolution passed by the council on April 8, 1930, authorising the payment of £2,500 annually from the general account towards the cost of permanently surfacing main highways within the county be rescinded, and that the sum of £2,500 be provided annually out of the General Account for the purpose of financing the council’s proportion of the cost of permanently surfacing and constructing major deviations on main highways within the county.” The council will also consider a report to be presented at the meeting dealing with the cost of the construction and maintenance of bridges.
