METHODIST CHURCH

TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Masterton Methodist Church trustees submitted by the secretary (Mr F. E. Wells) at the meeting on Monday night states inter alia:—Last year I mentioned that the next work in order of urgency, requiring the attention of your Trustees, was the painting of the exterior of the Church and Sunday School buildings as it was a long time since they were last done. It was also reported that there was then a bank overdraft of £79 12s 6d. Now, Masterton had been appointed the venue for the Wellington District Synod in November last. Your Trustees realised that our Church buildings did not present that appearance they would like the delegates to see them in. It was thought that something should be done. It was decided that a Special Appeal be made, and it was decided that we make an appeal for funds to do the work. The response was generous, one anonymous donor presented £5O towards the effort. In all, £lO4 2s Od was collected, and £95 was handed to the contractors. This was good, when we consider it was in addition to the usual gifts for the general purposes of the Trust. The work, however, in all cost £135, and your Trustees desire to pay the balance of the account in the near future, and solicit your assistance. We wish to express our thanks to Mr S. H. Ralph (choirmaster), Miss A. M. Jones, L.A. B. (organist), and the members of the choir for their regular and unselfish service from Sunday to Sunday, and particularly for the anthems and their helpful leading in the service of song. We would ask the Misses Donald and members of the Junior Choir to accept our best thanks for their pleasing service on Sunday mornings, which is so much appreciated. Our grateful thanks are due to the Ladies’ Guild, who contributed £6O towards the Trust Funds. Their gifts year by year are a big help to the Trustees in meeting the general exxpenses of the Trust. Our statement of affairs shows a current indebtedness of £l4O 14s Id, which is the amount due to the Bank, sundry creditors, and for interest. Your trustees would like to see these amounts 'satisfied during the current year. I mentioned last year that one of our church members had donated £2O towards the previous anniversary effort, and promised a further £2O last year. I am pleased to report that he increased that amount to £3O, for which we are grateful.”
