SECRET SESSION

LEAGUE AND ABYSSINIAN CLAIMS COMPROMISE FORMULA FOUND. ETHIOPIANS TO TAKE PART IN DISCUSSIONS. (Recd This Day, 12.5 p.m.) GENEVA, May 9. A secret session of the League Council discussed a compromise formula with the object of admitting the Abyssinians. Eventually a formula was found though Lord Halifax’s efforts whereby Haile Selassie’s representatives will be allowed to participate in the discussion when the Abyssinian case is taken up. Mr W. J. Jordan (New Zealand High Commissioner), supported M. Litvinoff (Russia) in defending the Abyssinians’ right to be present, which led to a discussion in which the Latvian and Polish delegates countered M. Litvinoff’s arguments.
