SCENE IN BANK
MANAGER ACCUSED OF TAKING WOMAN’S BAG. As a sequel to a scene in a bank at Salford, Lancashire, in which a woman accused the manager of stealing her handbag, Charlotte Boden, aged 59, of Broughton, was charged at Salford with conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. At a pluvious hearing, Detective Inspector Barnefield stated that the woman, who appeared in court hatless and dressed in a thin frock with short sleeves and without stockings, for no apparent reason went into a branch of the Westminster Bank and abused the manager. She alleged that he had stolen her handbag, and threatened to break the windows.
“When I got to the premises,” declared the police officer, “the woman was outside. A crowd had gathered, and she was shouting and swearing threatening to break the windows.”
It was stated that the woman was married. There was some doubt as to whether she was living with her husband. Boden was bound over for six months.
