ROAD CYCLING
WELLINGTON CENTRE RACES. MASTERTON RIDER SECOND. Conditions were fine on Saturday for the opening races of the Wellington centre which were started at the Petone rowing sheds. Mr W. Wollafid, president of the Centre, officially declared the season open and welcomed the members of the Wairarapa Cycling Club. The Wairarapa Club had their first success in open company, J. Brader finishing second to C. Huxford in the senior race of twenty miles :n which there were 39 starters. Of the other Wairarapa riders, C. Dykes arid K. Woollett finished the course while J. McAliece retired with machine trouble. The junior event saw 23 riders face the starter. The race resulted in a win for Laurie (Petone), with Pollock (Petone) second, and M. Graham (Wairarapa) third. B. Harman (Wairarapa) returned the second fastest time in this race. The riding of the Wairarapa competitors impressed the spectators. Invitations have been received by them to visit both the Petone and Poneke clubs’ meetings during the present season.
