DESERT ORDEAL

BRITISH WOMEN REACH ADEN. After three months in unknown Arabia, Misses Freya Stark and Caton Gardner have reached Aden safe and sound. They were seeking, on behalf of the Wakefield expedition, lost buried cities in Hadramaut. For five days on one occasion the two women dragged wearily over blistering sand, and when they sank exhausted, were surrounded by hostile tribesmen. Suddenly, friendly Bedouins appeared and gave them an escort.

Miss Stark travelled alone with the Bedouins for five days across an unknown region inhabited by some of the wildest tribes until she reached Azzan, where she was warmly welcomed and guided to Himyarite ruins.
