RULE BROKEN

PRESENTATIONS AT COURT. CANCELLED IN CASE OF TWO NEW ZEALANDERS. LONDON, May 6. The Lord Chamberlain's office has cancelled arrangements for the presentation at Court of two New Zealanders, Miss Kathleen O'Brien and Mrs William Webster. It is belfeved that interviews which the women gave to newspapers gave rise to the decision, which has been communicated to New Zealand House. Miss O’Brien is at present working as hostess at a hotel in Manchester. Mrs Webster was a member of the New Zealand delegation to the Coronation and was present at the service in the Abbey and at the Royal garden party. At present she is acting as hostess at a store in Liverpool while undergoing medical treatment. Miss O’Brien is quoted by newspapers as saying, “I will have no trouble in curtseying, as I have taught it to debutantes in New Zealand.” Mrs Webster, in an interview, said she had become bored in Liverpool and had offered her services to a store for charity. Mrs Websetr told the “Daily Herald”: “The Lord Chamberlain’s decision is a bitter blow to my hopes. I have had to visit London frequently to supervise the making of my court gown, and I have had to resign a position as fashion hostess.” DECISION UNDER REVIEW. LONDON, May 8. According to the “Sunday Graphic” an official states that the Lord Chamberlain is reconsidering his decision, as Miss O’Brien and Mrs Webster may not have been aware of the rule against interviews or may have forgotten it.
