PUBLIC LIBRARY
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Judging by the report of Mr Jordan’s late meeting he omitted to mention library affairs. Tonight’s meeting will give him a good opportunity to answer the following four questions:— Firstly, why has he not kept his promise to limit expenditure on travel, etc., to 10 per cent of the money spent on books? Last month's figures show that the expenditure was almost equal., Librarian £l9 6s 3d, and Book Chib and Committee £l6 17s 2d. and yet the number of travel, etc. issued for the month, 109. was not even 4 per cent of the fiction issued, 2978? Secondly, why does he still insist on the “Mind” buying from the Book
Club when each expert reporting on the library has spoken against it? Thirdly, why is the librarian limited to one local shop for her supplies
of fiction and the committee allowed an open market? Fourthly, does Mr Jordan think he is giving the voters a fair deal by allowing the outside committee to spend library funds without consulting the wishes of the said voters? Thanking you for space. —I am. etc.. JUST A VOTER. Masterton, May 7.
