WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING (“Times-Age” Special) The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Miniature Rifle Association was held in the Foresters’ Hall, Carterton on Saturday evening. Mr W. Johnson president, was in the chair, and the following were present —Messrs H. King, P. Russell (Masterton), R. Taucher, R. Hawker (Carterton), Geo Te Whaiti, H. Morgan (Greytown), W. Johnson, K. McKenzie (Featherston). L. G. Rassmussen, M. Hodder (South Featherston), E. A. Findlay, G. J. 'Flynn (Martinborough). Prior to the commencement of the meeting, the president referred to the illness of their patron (Mr G. W. Busby), who is at present an inmate of the Masterton public hospital, and extended the sympathy of the association to him, and expressed the hope of a speedy recovery. Reference was also made to the unfortunate mishap to Mr C. Skill, a member of the Martinborough Club, who had recently suffered the loss of an eye. The secretary was authorised to write both members, and convey the Association’s sympathy. The report and balance sheet showing a credit balance of £lB 51 5d were adopted. MATCH AGAINST WELLINGTON It was decided that the annual fixture with Wellington be fired in the Winter Show building, Wellington on Saturday, July 9, and that the question of a challenge trophy for event be discussed on that date, with power to act. The following remits from the Masterton Club were discussed: —(1), “That teams entries for the Wairarapa Championship fixture be accepted not later than the commencement of second match on day of competition.” After a discussion the remit was carried and it was decided that the same be fired over second and fourth matches, entry to be made after first match is fired. This rule is to be strictly enforced. (2), “That telescopes be permitted to be used in Wairarapa inter-club fixtures. This remit was lost by 7 votes to 4. It was resolved that match targets be used for inter-club shooting, and that for the championship meeting decimal targets be used, all decimal points to count in aggregate score. It was decided that the annual championship meeting be held in the Crown Theatre, Greytown, on Saturday July 23, commencing at 1 p.m. sharp.
A motion was carried that the prize money in “B” grade matches be increased by 7s 6d per match, and that the qualification of “B” grade shooter be 64 for 7 shots and 92 for 10 shots on match targets, and 62 and 90 on metric targets.
It was resolved that a pairs’ aggregate be added to the programme—3s per pair entry, and 100 per cent prize money to be paid out; entries to be accepted by Mrs G. King and Mr L. G. Rasmussen, with post entry on the day of the shoot, shooters to be bona fide members of one club. It was decided that late entries be charged Is extra. It was resolved that electric light be installed on championship range. FIXTURES The following is the draw for the competition:— FIRST ROUND Week ending May 21, Masterton v South Featherston at Masterton; Martinborough v Featherston at Martinborough; Greytown v Carterton, at Greytown.
Week ending May 28, Featherston v Masterton, at Featherston, South Featherston v Grey town, at South Featherston; Carterton v Martinborough, at Carterton. Week ending, June 4, Masterton v Carterton, at Masterton; South Featherston v Featherston at South Featherston; Greytown v Martinborough at Martinborough. Week ending June 11, Masterton v Martinborough, at Masterton; Carterton v South Featherston, at Carterton; Greytown v Featherston at Greytown. Week ending June 18, Masterton v Greytown at Masterton; Martinborough v South Featherston at Martinborough; Featherston v Carterton at Featherston. SECOND ROUND The fixtures for this round will be the same as in the first round, except that the home team will travel. The week ending date will be June 25, July 9, July 16, Wairarapa Championship meeting, Saturday July 23, at Greytown;last inter-club fixture, August 6. Members of clubs not firing in teams
can fire for Association Cup, which event is apart from inter-club shield matches. TISDALL. CUP MATCH. MASTERTON TEAMS. The Masterton Club will commence the season’s teams shooting on Wednesday evening with the Tisdall Cup competition. The match is contested throughout New Zealand, the conditions being five in a team, each member firing ten shots on the diminutive metric target. All targets are forwarded to Wellington to be checked and scores compiled. The winning team will hold the Tisdall Cup for the year and individual members receive a suitable souvenir.
Two teams to represent the club will be selected from the following members: —H. Cross, J. Curtin, C. E. Donald, D. P. Donald, H. V. Donald, W. Dornan, Mrs Henderson, B. Jenkins, Mrs King, H. King, R. C. Mason, C. Pickering, P. Russell, H. K. Smith, B. Summers, F. Seward. Next week the Wairarapa inter-club fixtures will commence and Masterton has drawn the South Featherston team for their first match, which will be fired on the local range. The result of this match will be eagerly awaited by miniature enthusiasts throughout the district.
