PLUNKET SOCIETY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Room 'on Thursday afternoon. There were present: Mesdames Q. Donald (in the chair), J. G. McKenzie, E. M. Wakely, D. C.-Collins, V. Bergh, H. C. Pendegast, F. C. Benton and J. A. Halpin. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Algar Williams, H. R. Bloxam, G. S. Sharp, A. S. Kilsby and F. M. Turner. Accounts amounting to £2 12s were, passed for payment. • * The Nurse’s report was read, and considered to be satisfactory. Mrs Q. Donald reported that Nurse ( Twentyman had taken up her duties i and would reside in Featherston for ] 12 months. 1 A letter was received in regard to I Founder’s Day, and the appeal of the ] Society for further members which ( is to be broadcasted from IYA Auck- < land by Lady Galway. 1 The resignation of Mrs Smith who had attended to the Rooms for several ] years was received. It was decided to j send her a letter of appreciation. i At the annual meeting it is hoped j to get Mrs McVicar, of Wellington, to < speak. < One new member was elected. ■ QUEEN CARNIVAL. The committee of the Queen Carnival held a successful shop day on Friday and a euchre tournament in the evening. The stall holders were: Produce, Mrs Elliot and helpers; cake, Mesdames ) Lambess and Jeffery; meal, Misses ( Brophy and Molten; jumble, Mrs and Miss Riddiford; sweets, Miss McLeod < and helpers; tea, Mesdames McKenna, ( Lowell and helpers. ; The winners of the euchre tourna- . ment were: Ladies, Mrs G. Cuff, 1; Mrs j Baker 2. Men, Mr Sorensen, 1; Mr McGarvie 2. ! FEATHERSTON GOLF CLUB. ‘ The shield competition held on Sat- < : urday resulted as follows: -W. Jeffrey, 85 —18, 67 net (receives 3 points); G. . O’Neale 81—9, 72 net (receives 2 points); J. Greig, 101 —28, 73 net (receives-! point).— •- | W. Jeffrey’s handicap is • now re- | duced to 15. I A bogey match will be held next ] Saturday, 14th inst. ! The first of the series of Ladies’ • Stableford competitions, held on Wed- • nesday last, resulted as follows: Miss j ' M. Ruane, 3 points; Miss Williams, 2 • ’ points; Mrs Turnbull arid Mrs McGill, ' J point. | The Challenge Cup series will commence next Wednesday. MAN AND BOY INJURED. On Sunday morning whilst herding i a mob of sheep into a vacant section for the purpose of eating off the long grass, Mr Huxtable and a young lad 1 named Fielding, of Cross Creek, col- I ■ lided, with the result that they both 1 : fell on some broken glass. Both re- 1 : ceived severe cuts on the hips, which ■ ' necessitated their being brought into < Featherston, where they were attend- ' ed by Dr Sharp. Both, however, were ’ ; able to return home after treatment. , DEFENCE OFFICERS. i Practically all the heads of the New ■ Zealand Defence Department are at 1 present in Featherston. The object of ’ their visit has not been made public. PERSONAL. Miss J. Brash left for Christchurch on Saturday for two weeks’ holiday. Mr and Mrs Still and family left today for their new home in Otorohanga. Mrs Brady, Wellington, is the guest of her sister, Mrs Allan Donald, for a < • few days. •
