CARTERTON

SERVICES APPRECIATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) In recognition of his services a donation was made to the secretary (Mr C. J. De Lacy) at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rifle Association and appreciative remarks were made relative to his work on behalf of the association. Votes of thanks were also accorded to the Press and to all the officials. LADIES’ GOLF. The following are the best scores handed in for the medal round played on the Taratahi links on Saturday:— Miss Berrill, 104, 18, 86; Miss Welch, 110, 22, 88; Miss Smart, 119, 28, 91. SAVAGE CLUB MEETING. One of the most successful annual meetings of the Carterton Savage Club was held on Saturday evening at the Masonic Hall, Carterton. There was a splendid attendance, and keen interest for the new season was displayed. A Korero was first held, a number of enjoyable items being contributed. The Glee Party, consisting<of Savages D. J. Irwin, H. B. Keenan, W. G. Thomas, Jas. Steel, H. T. Leete, Eric H. Fisher, J. L. Ewing, W. Sorensen and P. L. Darke, was in good form and their opening chorus was a clear indication of the quality of the items that may be expected from the party this season. Savage D. J. Irwin gave a solo in his usual good style, and the Glee Party assisted him in the chorus. Past Chief W. F. Stent recited in his characteristic inimitable manner and his effort was received with hearty applause, to which Mr Stent responded with an equally good number. The following officers for the year were elected: —Big Chief, Savage A. E. Hall; Deputy Big Chief, Savage Eric H. Fisher; Chief Scribe, Savage H. T. Leete (re-elected); assistant Scribe, Savage A. Tankersley; chief of the Buttery Hatch, Savage G. Bruce; dramatic director, Past Chief W. F. Stent; musical director, Savage D. J. Irwin; Kaiwakakahere, Savage P. L. Darke; council, Savages N. F. Every, R. W. Rdydhouse, S. T. Rooney, D. Taylor, and M. Worsfield. . _ ' ’ ; Congratulations were extended to retiring Big Chief Savage H. B. Keenan arid Chief Scribe H. T. Leete' on the success of last year’s activities. The retiring council also assisted ably. A tasty supper and the usual toasts coricluded a happy evening. WEDDING. At St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Carterton, a wedding of considerable local interest was solemnised. The bride was the elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Colin Campbell, Clarevilie, and the bridegroom Richard Neville Moon, elder son of Mrs Moon and the late Mr Moon, Keighley, Yorkshire. The minister was the Rev. R. Byers. The bride wore ivory satin made on slim fitting lines and falling into a train. She carried a bouquet of cream chrysanthemums. The bridesmaid. Miss Molly Campbell, sister of bride, and Miss Essie Hancox, of Martinborough, cousin of the bride, were dressed in primrose sheer georgette frocks trimmed with violet velvet sashes. They wore picture hats of prirrirose tulle trimmed with velvet and sprays of violet. They carried bouquets to tone. The best man was Mr G. Carswell, of Eastbourne, the groomsman Mr Murdo Campbell, brother of the bride, and the ushers Messrs S. and A. Fisher, Clareville. The bride’s mother wore a navy blue and white ensemble and carried a bouquet of autumn flowers. She was assisted by Mrs G. Carswell, wearing a black frock and fur cape and a shoulder spray of autumn flowers. ' ..At the reception at the Masonic Hall tl)ere were over a hundred guests. Mr and Mrs Moon left later by car for the north, the bride wearing a costume of London tan and accessories to tone. Their future home will be at Kopuaranga.
