GREYTOWN

HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the householders in connection with the Greytown school it was stated that the centralisation scheme had resulted in the inclusion of the Kaitara district and Matarawa in the scheme. The Morison’s Bush and Matarawa schools are now closed and the children transported by bus to Greytown. The Headmaster spoke on the educational, value of the radio. Two wireless’sets had been installed, one being in-the secondary department. It was reported that the ■ Swimming Club had given much appreciated asistance by making the baths available during the ’“Learn (to Swim” campaign. One pupil, Eric Dennes,. had gained the championship in Wellington and in the Wairarapa. A. vote of thanks was passed to the Town Lands Trust for generous grants. It was resolved that a recommendation ; be'sent to the Education Board that- the' householders’ biennial meeting be advertised in the papers as the lack of publicity resulted in a poor attendance.

It was decided to alter the meeting night’ of the committee to the first Tuesday in each month. A tribute-was paid to the Minister of Education by the chairman (Mr H. G. Carter). The increase in capitation had lessened the anxieties of school’ committees from a financial point of view, he said. BREACHES OF LICENSING ACT. The supplying of three Maoris with a five-gallon keg of beer led to the appearance of the previous licensee of the Foresters’ Arms Hotel, Clifford Hawkins Pathie, in the S.M. Court yesterday, before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. It was stated that when the licensee was interview he admitted selling the liquor to the Maoris, who were good customers. It was the licensee’s 'last day at the hotel. He was fined £7 and costs. One of the Maoris, Whiri Panere, was charged with having aided and assisted in the commission of the offence, and was fined £3 and 10s costs. The cases against the other two were adjourned. Charged with have sold liquor after hours, Michael Richard Wallis, licensee of the Morison’s Bush Hotel, was fined £3 and 10s costs.
