THE REGENT.
• “MADAME X.” TONIGHT. The acting demands made upon Gladys George for the heart-stabbing portrayal demanded of her in the title role of “Madame X.” which will open its season tonight at the Regent were very arduous. There are five scenes in which Miss George is required to rise to the pitch of her dramatic ability. The first half contains excellent short subjects including “A Friend Indeed,” a Pete Smith specialty, “Little Buck Cheese,” a Happy Harmony Cartoon in colour, “Rainbow Pass,” an M-G-M miniature, “Our Gang Follies of 1938,” also a Fitzpatrick Traveltalk in colour. “Historic Mexico,” and a News reel. SATURDAY NEXT. “TOPPER.” This outstanding comedy by the pen of Thorne Smith and starring Cary Grant, Roland Young, Alan Mowbray, Eugene Pallette and Constance Bennett, will commence at the Regent Theatre on Saturday. Plans are open at Perry’s.
