LIGHTS BY RADIO
ENGLISH TECHNICIANS ON VERGE OF SUCCESS. . MAY PROVE CHEAPER THAN PRESENT SYSTEM. Homes lit by radio may be a practical possibility before very long. English technicians engaged on research on the subject of transmitting power by wireless expect soon to announce that their experiments have succeeded. “One company has already found it possible to control the lighting of single lamps at a distance by wireless,” said an electrical authority in London recently. “It is considered that' their system might be useful for signalling purposes —for example, for controlling the lights on police-boxes by wireless, or for air-raid warning lights in time of war. “The present research on the subject is directed towards radiating electrical energy in large quantities over long distances at comparatively low cost. There is hope that it may be possible to do this by means of shortwave radiations. "By eliminating wires and cables, it may even be possible to distribute electricy by radio more cheaply than by the present wired system.”
