HONEY CONTROL
PERSONNEL OF NEW BOARD MARKETING PROPOSALS AUCKLAND, April 29. The appointment of Mr R. Penny, Okaiawa, Taranaki, and Mr L. R. Robins, Temuka, as producers’ representatives on the New Zealand Honey Control Board, was announced today. These appointments, together with that of Mr W. Nelson, Otorohanga, as Government nominee and chairman complete the personnel of the new board, members of which will take office in succession to Messrs J. R. Butland, P. H. Hilary and W. Watson, who resigned in protest against the Government’s policy for the marketing of honey. Mr Penny is a prominent apiarist and for many years has taken a leading part in the affairs of the industry. He is president of the Taranaki branch of the National Beekeepers’ Association, and a past president of the national association. He will represent North Island producers on the board. Mr Robins, who is well known in the industry in the south, has had wide experience in the production, preparation and packing of honey. He is general president of the National Beekeepers’ Association. As a member of the board he will represent South Island producers. The first meeting of the new board was held in Auckland this week, said Mr W. Nelson today. In close colloboration with the Internal Marketing Department members had made a thorough investigation of the salient features of honey production and distribution in the Dominion. Constructive proposals were brought forward for the reorganisation of both internal and export marketing. A complete statement of the future policy of the board would be made at the annual conference of the National Beekeepers’ Association to be held at Timaru about the first week in June.
