Miss E. Reed, who has been visiting Mr and Mrs Algar Williams, Featherston, left today for Hawke’s Bay. Captain S. F. Allen, N.Z. Staff Corps, has relinquished the appointment of General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade - (Signals), and remains attached to Army Headquarters. The death occurred at Woodville on Wednesday of Mrs Wicks, wife of Mr E. B. P. Wicks, formerly engineer to the Tararua Electric Power Board. Mr H. M. Christie, M.P., and Mrs Christie, were entertained at Waipukurau before leaving for England on a brief visit. The guests were presented with a travelling case.
Captain G. H. Heal, N.Z. Staff Corps, having returned to New Zealand after undergoing courses of instruction in England, has been appointed General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade (Signals), Army Headquarters. Colonel E. Puttick, D. 5.0., N.Z. Staff Corps, has been appointed honorary Aide-de-Camp to his Excellency the Governor-General. He suceeds Colonel I. T. Standish. C.M.G., D. 5.0., Regiment of Royal N.Z. Artillery. Mr Winstone Jones, son of Mr and Mrs H. J. Jones, of Renall Street, Masterton, has been accepted for service in the New Zealand Royal Air Force, and will commence his duties on Wednesday next.
The services of Messrs M. A. Moody and G. P. Catley, two members of the Palmerston North Hospital Board who are not seeking re-election at the coming elections, were eulogised by the board at its annual meeting yesterday. Mr Moody has been a representative of Kairanga County Council on the board for the past 27 years and Mr Catley has represented Horowhenua county for 12 years.
It was reported at last night’s meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors that Mr O. H. E. Yates, former Principal of the now defunct Masterton Technical School, had accepted an appointment as an actinginspector of Technical Schools. While expressing regret at losing his services, members united in congratulating Mr Yates on his appointment and thanking him for his valuable services to both the Technical School and Wairarapa College. The appointment of Mr E. R. Myers, of the Department of Health, as Director of Pharmacy, is announced. The office is a new one arising out of the licensing of the retail pharmacy industry in accordance with the Industrial Efficiency Act passed by Parliament in 1936. Mr Myers will be responsible for the administration of the industrial plan formulated for it by • the Bureau of Industry. He will take up his new duties on Monday.
