MASTERTON BAND
PRESENTATION TO SERGEANT. At the conclusion of practice last evening, the band’s popular Sergeant, Mr R. Sayer, who is about to join the ranks of the benedicts, was the guest of the Masterton Municipal Band. In presenting Band-Sergeant Sayer with a handsome clock as a token of esteem from the band, the conductor, Mr G. W. Hutchinson, thanked him for his enthusiasm and interest in the band over a period of thirteen years. During that period, said Mr Hutchinson, the band had seen many ups and downs, and he had no hesitation in saying that Band Sergeant Sayer was justly entitled to a great share of the credit for the gratifying measure of prosperity the band was enjoying today. The health of the prospective bride and bridegroom was proposed by the Deputy-Conductor, Mr Allan Pearson, who, in the course of his remarks said that Band-Sergeant Sayer had gained his popularity with the bandsmen on merit—not at the expense of discipline. In returning thanks Mr Sayer said he counted it a privilege to belong to an organisation, such as the Masterton band, whose affairs were conducted so smoothly. I
