HOUSEHOLD HINTS
A WIDE VARIETY. Rub a mud-stained umbrella with a cloth dipped in methylated spirit, and the stains will soon disappear. A cake will keep moist longer, and have a more delicious flavour, if a teaspoon of marmalade is used in place of lemon-peel. When a mattress has become rusty, brush it with a stiff brush, and give it a coat of aluminium paint, and it will not rust again. Never throw out thick milk. Put in a muslin bag and hang up until all the whey is drained from it, add salt to taste, and you have a lovely little cream cheese. Before washing printed cotton materials, soak in a solution of epsom salts. This sets the colours. Add a sprig or two of parsley to cabbage, cauliflower, or silver beet when cooking. It greatly improves the flavour. When bathing an infected finger, use an eggcup. There will be less waste of antiseptic. To remove tar-marks from white shoes, rub fresh butter into the marks. A little petrol will remove the butter.
