FARMERS’ UNION
TINUI ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual meeting of the Tinui branch of the Farmers’ Union was held yesterday, when Mr James Andrew presided over a good attendance of members. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Chairman, Mr James Andrew; vice-chair-man, Mr H. Bennett; members of provincial executive, Messrs James Andrew, L. Meredith, N. W. Groves; delegates to inter-provincial conference at Wellington, Messrs James Andrew, L. Meredith and H. Bennett. Mr Hugh Morrison, the Wairarapa provincial president, gave a comprehensive address on the seasonal and economic difficulties confronting the hill farmer on second-class land. Mr Morrison made a special appeal to members to strictly avoid the party political controversy within the ranks of the union. A hearty vote of thanks to the speaker was carried by acclamation. The following remit to the interprovincial conference at Wellington was carried: —“That while reserving to itself the right to present all forms of farming economic problems to any Government which was ever in power, this conference urges that the Farmers’ Union keeps itself entirely free from party political controversy.” Facial eczema in sheep was the subject of much discussion at the meeting. It was reported that the Tinui district was at the moment free of the disease.
