WAIRARAPA COLLEGE
BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET. The chairman, Mr L. J. Taylor, presided at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors, held last night. Others present were: Messrs W. H. Jackson, E. J. Wright, W. R. Nicol, A. Donald, A. T. Jackson, P. M. Smith and Mrs C. C. Jackson. An apology for absence was received from Mr W. A. Clarke. The Principal, Mr G. G. Hancox, reported that the roll number at the day school was 510 (boys 228, girls 222). The average attendance for the 4 weeks ending April 14 was 464. After a brief discussion it was decided to hold a postal ballot of members within seven days on a proposal that the College, Masterton and other primary schools within a radius of 5 miles of the Post Office be given direct representation on the proposed new Wellington Education Board. If the motion is carried it will be placed before the Select Committee recently set up by the Minister of Education. A letter of appreciation is to be forwarded to Mr J. W. Bird for the very keen interest he had taken in the College Pipe Band and to congratulate him and Pipe-Major Murdoch Mckenzie on the success of the band at the recent contest.
