WRIGHT, STEPHENSON & CO. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:— We held our second autumn cattle fair in the Colombo Road yards, Masterton, yesterday, when an entry well in excess to advertised, numbers was yarded. There was a fair attendance although it was noticeable that no outside buyers were present, possibly due to floods. Generally, the yarding was not up to the usual standard of Masterton cattle fairs. There were several pens of quite useful cattle offered, but on the other hand, there were a lot of very mixed pens. Grown cattle met with a very 'strong demand and - prices were above expectations. Younger cattle were slightly easier, but in most cases these were of inferior quality. Cows with calves at foot were in demand, and young empty heifers met a good market. Fats sold at ruling rates. Prices were as follow: —Fat P.A. cows and heifers, to £8 2s 6d; fat cows (dairy sorts), £4 10s to. £5 15s; 20-mos. P.A. steers, £5 10s to £6 12s 6d; 20-mos S.H. steers, £5 to £5 18s; 2J-yr. ADDINGTON PRICES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 27. There were overflow entries in most sections at today’s weekly Addington market. Values for fat sheep and cattle lost the advance recorded last week. Store sheep: About 6000 were penned, Chatham Island ewes and wethers being included. The ijest of the wethers made to 22s 2d, and best ewes to 235. The ewes were not as well-conditioned as the usual district sorts. Station wethers made 21s, but most of the district ewes were old and failing-mouthed, selling at from 7s 6d to 12s 6d, with good sorts of two-tooths from 25s to 28s, and sound-mouthed from 17s to 19s for good-conditioned. Old ewes made extremely low prices. Fat lambs: A larger entry of about 2000 head was sold under active competition at export rates.
