STOCK MARKET

AUTUMN CATTLE FAIR. KEEN COMPETITION. The N.Z. Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Co., Ltd., offered a full yarding of cattle to a good attendance of local buyers at the second autumn cattle fair at Masterton yesterday. Fat cattle sold readily at prices on a par with those ruling at the previous fair, while forward conditioned three and four-year-old steers were up from lOs to £1 per head. In this section the top price for the day. £ll, was obtained for a choice line of P.A. steers on account of Messrs F. and H. C. Percy, of Alfredton. There was little animation in the 20-mos. steer market and prices offered for choice lines were disappointing. Good heifers r.w.b. and young cows with calves at foot were keenly competed for. The following are some of the top prices: —On of F. and H. C. Percy, Alfredton, fat steers, £ll 10s; on account of H. B. Maunsell, Tinui, fat cows, £7 17s 6d; on account of Larsen Estate, Mauriceville, 3J-yr. Hereford steers, £lO 15s; on account of J. D. Crozier, Roselea, 2J-yr. Hereford steers, £9; on account of C. J. Campbell, Mt. Bruce, 3-yr.-old P.A. heifers, r.w.b., £6 As; on account of ,J. Campbell Junr., Opaki, P.A. cows with calves at foot, £7 10s; other quotations, 4-yr.-old S.H. steers, £9 5s to £10; 2-yr. Hereford steers, £8 to £8 10s; 2-yr. P.A. steers, £8 to £9 10s; 20-mos. P.A. steers, £5 to £6; 20-mos. Hereford steers, £4 to £5 15s; 20-mos. S.H. steers, £4 to £4 10s; P.A. weaner heifers, £2 to £3; weaner Jersey heifers, £2 to £2 6s. A small yarding of fat and store sheep was cleared under good competition at the following prices:-—Fat ewes, 18s 6d; b.f. lambs, 15s 6d; w.f. shorn w. lambs, 12s Id; cull, 8s to 10s. DALGETY & CO., LTD. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their Masterton sale and cattle fair held yesterday as follows: —The yarding of sheep was small but the cattle yards were filled to their capacity with all classes of station cattle. In spite of the very unfavourable weather conditions there was a good attendance of local buyers, no outside buyers being present. Competition throughout was good and any cattle showing quality were keenly sought after, and made prices well in advance to those- ruling at our last local cattle fair, this no doubt being due to the very beneficial rains experienced of late and the abundance of feed throughout the district. The grown steers yarded' were keenly sought after and in our entry an attractive line of 3J-yr. P.A. steers offered on account of Mr W. M. Laing, “Rata Hills,” met spirited competition, falling to the' bid of £lO 14s. Hold over cattle also met a keen market and although there were not many 2Jyr. steers yarded, the competition for them was strong. 18-mos. P.A. steers also met a good market and a fine line which was offered on account Mrs E. A. Wrigley, Bideford, topped the market for the day at £7. Female cattle and fat cattle met an improved market and sold at advanced rates. With the exception of one small pen we made a total clearance at prices which must be considered very satisfactory. The follqwing list of our principal sales will indicate values: — Fat P.A. cows, £6 15s, £7, £7 5s to £7 12s 6d; fat P.A. cows and heifers, £7 ss, £\ 7s 6d to £7 10s; light fat P.A. cows, £6 2s 6d, £6 5s to £6 15s; fat dairy cows, £5, £5 7s 6d, £5 10s to £6; light cows, £4, 10s, £4 12s 6d .to £5; vealers, light, £2 10s to £3 2s.
