THE HON. W. D. STEWART
WILL NOT BE A CANDIDATE AT THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION (By Telegraph—Press Association). DUNEDIN, April 26. Asked today whether he would be a candidate at the general election, the Hon W. Downie Stewart replied in the negative. “I am grateful,” he said, “to the large number of electors who have asked me to stand and have offered their support, but I have decided not to offer myself as a candidate. I am still deeply interested in politics, and in my old electorate, but since last election I have taken up further duties in the business world and I find my time fully occupied at present. The same reason has led me to make a similar reply to invitations kindly proffered by electors in certain constituencies further north.”
