The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club today held the third meeting ting Club today held the third day of the inter-Dominion Championship meeting in fine weather and before a good attendance for an off day. Scott, winner of the third heat in the third qualifying event of the interDominion trotting championship today, received a hostile reception when he returned to the scale because of his rather indifferent displays on the opening days, when his great bursts of speed were not carried on with good results. His better showing may be explained by a change of gear. On the opening days U. Scott had raced in an open bridle, but before the race today an application was made for a change. This application, it appears, was refused, and U. Scott's connections, considering that with an open bridle he would "pull himself to pieces,” threatj ened to withdraw him from the race. U. Scott, however, was permitted to start with a change in gear, and, showing himself a very good stayer, won handsomely. After the race a protest was entered by the connections of the second horse. Pot Luck, and the stewards have deferred decision until a meeting at 7.30 tomorrow evening. Place dividends have been paid on the second and
