BOROUGH AFFAIRS
MEETING OF CARTERTON COUNCIL. MAINTENANCE OF BOUNDARY ROADS. (“Times-Age” ’Special.) The Mayor, Mr D. L. Tavener, presided at the monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council, held last night. Others present were: Councillors E. McKenzie, W. M. Sorenson, C. Stevens, W. Hart, C. J. Delacey, R. A. Copeland, J. Udy, H, Mortenson and Olive Wolters. The Carterton branch of the Plunket Society wrote expressing appreciation at the action of the council in making it an annual grant. The Carterton Catholic Carnival Committee was granted permission to hold a shop day next month. The Carterton Hockey Club was granted permission to use Carrington Park during the coming season. The South Wairarapa County Council wrote agreeing to the request of the Borough to maintain the boundary roads, the costs to be borne equally by both bodies. On the motion of the Mayor, a vote of appreciation was passed to the committee which organised the jubilee celebrations.
Appreciative reference was made to the fact that the Carterton Municipal Band was now functioning again, thanks, it was stated, to the splendid efforts of the conductor, Mr J. L. Harris.
