STOCK MARKET
EKETAHUNA SALE The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows on their Eketahuna sale held on Thursday. Our entry fell slightly short of advertised numbers, but we submitted 1227 sheep to a fair attendance, including buyers from the Wairarapa, Manawatu and Southern Hawke's Bay. The yarding consisted chiefly of lambs, with odd pens of breeding ewes and wethers. Quite a bright sale resulted, competition being mainly from local and Wairarapa. buyers. Prices, as compared with our previous sale, showed an improvement and a good clearance was effected. Breeding ewes showing any quality were in good demand. Weaner pigs were slow of sale. Prices were as follow: —Sheep:—M.A. ewes, r.w. S.D.. 265; 4 and 5-year ewes, r.w. S.D., 24s 3d; S.M. ewes, store condition, r.w. S.D., 17s 3d; failing mouth do., r.w. At the Eketahuna sale on Thursday Dalgety and Co., Ltd., offered a medium entry of sheep, which met with a decidedly better sale. The tone of the market throughout was better and prices showed a hardening on recent reports. A total clearance was effected as follows:—S.m. ewes, r.w. S.D., 20s to 22s Id; low-conditioned s.m. ewes, r.w. S.D., 13s 7d to 15s; store ewes, 8s 9d to 10s.
