TRIANGULAR CHURCH

A FRENCH CURIOSITY. A triangular church at Planes, a village of Cerdagne, is one of the curiosities of a picturesque region of France where the Pyrenees touch the Mediterranean. Archaeologists have long discussed this curious church, whose walls form an almost equilateral triangle. The sides of the small church measure only 20ft, and the roof is an irregular dome resting on the three walls. A belfry above is a flat wall in which are two openings where bells are hung. Many have thought the little church was a mosque transformed, for the Moors who invaded Spain came as far as this part of France. Opinion of the experts rejects this theory, and the three walls are thought to be symbolical of the Trinity. The church has most of the characteristics of a building of the thirteenth century.
