Children’s Footwear Tariff. Pointing out that there had been no increase made in the tariff on children’s footwear, and that there was no duty on children’s shoes imported, sizes 0 to 9, from British countries, the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon D. G. Sullivan, yesterday commented on reports he had received that certain retailers had advanced the prices for children’s shoes, and had told customers the advance was due to the imposition of the tariff. The Minister stated that any action on the part of certain retailers in attempting to exploit the public by raising prices, and then giving as a reason a statement which contained no element of truth in justification of their exploitation, was most unfair. The New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation had given a definite undertaking that local manufacturers would not increase their prices as a result of the tariff alterations. A CAKE FOR THE BRIDE!
