METHODIST YOUNG MEN’S CAMP. A PROFITABLE WEEKEND. Over 30 young men of the Methodist Bible Classes of the Wairarapa spent the Easter holidays in camp at the Matarawa School under the leadership of Rev E. P. Blamires (N.Z. Methodist Youth Director) and Mr A. E. Bate, other camp appointments being filled by enthusiastic young men. The school building and property proved to be an excellent camping site, the marquee and eight tents forming a picturesque scene, especially in the evenings when they were flood lit.
In spite of adverse weather conditions there were many visitors to the camp, and they all found that the campers’ enthusiasm had not been at all dampened by the rain; on the contrary, an atmosphere of unbounded happiness was very apparent.
The period spent in camp included daily studies and meetings of a devotional character. On Good Friday the Rev F. J. Parker conducted a significant service, and profitable services were held on Sunday. The service at Greytown Methodist Church on Sunday morning was conducted by some of the campers.
The camp sports had to be cancelled, but the impromptu concert on Saturday night was very entertaining and popular, the cup for the best class item being won by the Masterton Senior Class. The camp will be a happy memory to all who attended and when the campers returned to their homes on Monday afternoon they felt that they had had a very inspiring weekend.
