NOVEL IDEAS
FROM FASHION SALONS From America comes a novel manicure idea. In one New York beauty parlour there is a nail-polish blending bar, with no fewer than 47 different shades which are blended to the whim and fancy of each individual customer. A few drops of several shades are mixed to match the wearer's make-up or gown or jewellery. It is thought that a baroque style in clothes and hairdressing may be the result of the Exhibition of 17th Century Art held in London, and one result of this may be the revival of the “love-lock” worn hanging down over one shoulder by so many of the women in the portraits of Reubens and. Van Dyck. Dress designers are copying belts, embroideries, and hemlines shown in the many portraits, and the lavish and extravagant fashions of the period may soon be reflected in Bond Street and Hanover Square. In Paris, glass flowers, gold stars, and metal clasped hands and cherubs are used as hair ornaments for evening wear, while tiny tortoises with watches set in their backs are among the new ideas of jewellery. One delicious bracelet worn by a smart Parisienne consisted of a row of.tiny bottles dangling from a gold band, ending with a bottle of fruit salts.
