FOOTBALL
SPRINGBOKS’ TOUR. A SUBSTANTIAL PROFIT. A net profit of £17,705 was the result of the tour of the South African Rugby football team last year as far as the New Zealand Rugby Union was concerned. Out of this sum the council of the union will make grants to those unions who did not have a game against the visitors allocated to them. The various matches played by the visitors were controlled in the different centres by local unions on behalf of the New Zealand union, and the. statement of the parent body gives the net receipts from matches and items of expenditure not charged against the accounts for each match. Items of expenditure met directly by the New Zealand Rugby Union accounted for a sum of £9678. from which is deducted a sum of £lOOO paid by Australia toward the South African team's fares.
The New Zealand trial matches, played in Wellington, showed a credit balance of £125.
Due almost entirely to the visit of the South African team, there is a surplus in the revenue account for the year of £16,842.
