FRIENDLY SOCIETIES
4 ANNUAL MEETING OF COUNCIL ELECTION OF OFFICERS The Masterton Friendly Societies’ Council held its annual meeting last week, Bro. J. The secretary presented the annual balance sheet, which showed that the funds of the Society were being well maintained. During the winter months the usual card tournament was held between the lodges, and the M.U.1.0.0.F. team was successful in winning the Shield for 1937. The card teams also journeyed to Eketahuna to compete in a challenge from the Eketahuna lodges, the Eketahuna lodge winning by a very small margin of points. The first annual picnic was held at the Solway show grounds, and in spite of the fact that it was postponed twice, there was a good attendance, and a most enjoyable time was spent.
