YOUNG FARMERS
COMPETITIONS AT SYDNEY ROYAL SHOW CARTERTON MEMBER PLACED. VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND SUGGESTED. SYDNEY, April 15. Competitions at the Sydney Royal Show for junior farmers, embracing five from New Zealand, comprised largely the judging of live stock and cereals.' lan Gilmour, one of four British boys, was conspicuously successful. He was placed in three classes in which there was strong inter-Dominion rivalry. Runner-up to Gilmour in the judging of a Jersey cow was A. Fisher, of the Carterton club, New Zealand. A. Cowan, of the Apti Young Farmers’ Club, New Zealand, was third in judging a Berkshire pig. Sir Samuel Hordern, president of the society, welcomed the boys and emphasised the value of reciprocal visits. The New Zealand Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs has requested a visit by the Australian Junior Farmers to the New Zealand centenary celebrations in 1940, and every effort is being made to accept the invitation. Among the visitors to the show is a party of New Zealand touring farmers, headed by Mr D. S. Max, of Nelson, who with his colleagues is greatly impressed by the magnitude and educational value of the whole exhibition.
