BRUTAL ATTACK

COMMITTED ON FARMER. ASSAILANT ESCAPES. By Telegraph—Press Association. ASHBURTON, April 13. A brutal attack was committed on David James Mclntyre, a well-known farmer and threshing mill owner, of Digby’s Bridge, three miles from town, at 10.30 o’clock last night. On returning with his wife after an evening’s absence Mclntyre heard a movement in the front of the house. On going to investigate he was struck heavily on the head, and on raising an arm to ward off another blow was battered on the hand, one finger being broken. His assailant escaped as McIntyre was stunned by the blow on the head.

A shotgun and three cartridges were found to be missing.
