The Japanese are withdrawing heavy guns and munitions. SOUTHERN FORAY PLANES ATTEMPT TO BOMB CANTON. DRIVEN OFF BY CHINESE FIGHTERS. (Recd This Day, 1.10 p.m.) SHANGHAI, April 13. It is reported that eight Japanese warships, an aircraft carrier and twenty transports have concentrated off Foochow and Amoy. Forty planes reconnoitred Amoy. Twenty-four of the machines flew on to Canton, which they attempted to bomb, but they encountered a flight of Chinese fighters, which shot down four and drove off the remainder.
