SIR CHARLES BELCHER

VISITOR TO MASTERTON. Sir Charles Belcher, who retired recently from the position of Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday and today. He is at present returning from Honolulu to Australia, en route to his home at Kinangop, Kenya. He left Masterton this morning for Wellington to connect with the Wanganella for Sydney. Sir Charles Belcher, who has held appointments in Australia, Uganda, Nyassaland and Cyprus, besides Trinidad, is a recognised authority on bird life, which he has studied in the various countries in which he has been stationed. His publications, besides many papers, include volumes on Australian and Nyassaland birds. He is one of the foundation members of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists’ Union, which was formed in 1900, and is also a member of the British Ornithologists’ Union. During his present tour he has been making contact with as many students of bird life as possible.
